Where the cow is king

Kenya's dairy industry is plagued by poor infrastructure and a lack of technical knowledge. IT WAS A FLASHBACK to a time almost forgotten by dairy farmers here in Ontario... milk cans in the back of an old pickup truck taking the morning milk to the local creamery, the strong handshake of a man who milks cows by hand every morning, and the never-ending task of hauling water from the river for the stock. Throughout the month of February, this writer had the opportunity to visit with farmers in the Cherangany region in Western Kenya in a place where the dairy cow reigns supreme.
