A properly designed centrifuge can provide a cost-effective approach to not just die and lubricant life, but improve product quality. The cost-effective maintenance of coolants is always a challenge. Each drawing machine filtration requirement should be approached individually and considered a custom design. The system design variables stated at the beginning (type of coolant, flow rate, tank sizing, solids loading, expectations of coolant life, daily production requirements, existing equipment and available capital) all should be considered when developing a new system concept that includes a centrifuge or the addition of a centrifuge to an existing installation. A modern centrifuge is a great piece of equipment when applied correctly, but it has limitations too and should not be viewed as a substitute for positive barrier filtration. As time goes on and technology advances, limitations ordinarily found with centrifuges, such as bowl size and RPMs produced at reasonable costs, may disappear. If and when that happens, a centrifuge cold become the equipment of choice for more filtering system applications.
