November shipments of residential gas water heaters increased 20% to 313,524 units from the 260,443 units shipped in November 2008, according to the latest Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) report. During the same period, the number of residential electric water heaters increased 4% to 290,691 units, up from 280,019 units a year earlier.
