More than Half-Million Homes In Northeast Switch to Gas

The American Gas Association (AGA) estimates that more than a half-million housing units in the Northeast U.S. switched from fueloil to natural gas for their primary heating fuel from 2000 to 2010. The estimate comes from AG As "Residential Space Heating Changes in the Northeast, 2000-2010" report, which was compiled using data from the U.S. Census Bureau's American Community Survey. AGA examined 217 U.S. northeastern counties for changes in home heating fuel between 2000 and 2010, and found that natural gas conversions topped those of all other fuels combined during the decade.
