The civil contracting industry has to get the message through to the decision makers - Australia could face drastic problems in the construction sector within u few years if contractors continue to be squeezed to accept unrealistically low profit margins and politicians continue to play political games with capital spending on infrastructure. That's the message that Doug Williams the recently appointed national executive director of the Civil Contractors Federation, wants to take to governments and the business sector. Civil contractors are often described (by themselves) as the prime source of innovation in construction. A national CCF member survey initiated by Williams indicates they also make an important contribution to the national economy in economic output, capital expenditure and employment.
