Highway to success

Works to extend one of Perth's main freight routes is continuing on its journey towards the end of stage six. The current Roe Highway extension, expected to be completed for under 100 million dollars, will take the road another 4.5km from Nicholson Road in Canning Vale through Parkwood, Willetton and Leeming to South Street. The highway's primary purpose is to provide a high-grade road that commuters and industry can use to access retail, recreational and commercial outlets, particularly in Perth's important industry centres at Canning Vale, Kewdale and Welsh pool. Main Roads WA awarded the stage six design and construction contract to the John Holland-Macmahon joint venture in September 2002 and on-site works started in February 2003. It is expected to be operational by mid-2004.
