The 22 volumes of the report of the Royal Commission into the Building & Construction Industry demonstrate the truth: civil contractors are victims of many of the improper and illegal practices uncovered by commissioner Terence Cole, but themselves came out of the inquiry with a clean bill of health. Federal workplace relations minister Tony Abbott, who released the report in Federal Parliament last month, said it had confirmed the fears of widespread intimidation, coercion and collusion within the industry. After participating in an initial briefing on the report convened by Abbott last month, Civil Contractors Federation national executive director Doug Williams said the CCF was committed to playing its part in ensuring a world-class infrastructure construction capability in Australia.
