Roads role for steel slag

Tests carried out by the CSIRO have demonstrated the technical and commercial viability of recycling waste slag from steel production into a range of useful products for building roads and pavements, and to substitute for virgin quarried products in concrete.CSIRO Sustainable Materials Engineering carried out the trial at the Melbourne plant of Smorgon Steel Group, which produces 60,000 tonnes of slag a year from its electric arc furnaces.
