Mobile testing vans ensure chain safety

Two New Zealand companies have struck upon an ingenious method of ensuring the ongoing safety of chains used in a variety of lifting, pulling, securing and heavyweight materials handling tasks. Hydraulic engineering specialist Kasco and Steel and Tube Distribution New Zealand have collaborated to develop a mobile chain test rig. Powered by an Enerpac RCH 306 hollow cylinder specially constructed for testing, maintenance and tensioning applications, the rig applies forces significantly exceeding the load expected on the chains to ensure they won't break while in use and continue to perform with a wide safety margin.
