The Civil Contractors Federation has taken the Australian Democrats to task over their continued refusal to reverse the devastating impact on the civil construction industry of the July 2000 changes to the diesel fuel rebate and grants scheme.The industry was excluded from the two schemes that were introduced last year to compensate industry sectors that were impacted by the goods and services tax.The Diesel Fuel Rebate Scheme provided a rebate to the agriculture, forestry, fishing, rail and mining industries, generally of 37.4 cents per litre. The diesel and Alternative Fuel Grants Scheme (DAFGS) provided a grant of 18 cents per litre for the transport industry.
