Bekaert to close European plants in France and Ireland to help boost profits

Belgium's NV Bekaert SA announced that it plans to downsize its Merchant Products Europe (MP Europe) business unit, closing two of its three MP Europe plants in France, its only one in Ireland, and it will restructure operations in the U.K. and Germany. The company is closing plants in Charleville and Ancerville, France, and in Dublin, Ireland, a company press release said. The production capacities of those three plants will be absorbed into the other 11 production sites, it said, noting that 185 workers will lose their jobs as a result of the closures, with an additional 270 lost to restructuring.
