Analysis of the die failures in cold heading using finite element simulation

Using a 2-D coupled analysis and a 3-D staggered analysis, it was possible to detect the cause of two different die failures that occurred in a two-die, three-blow cold forming progression. A high degree of correlation was found between a simulation model and the production process.
