Cable Project Bright Spots Can Be Found In Energy and Bandwidth Infrastructure

Wire and cable represents one of the smaller polymer markets worldwide, accounting in 2009 for less than 3% of total world polymer demand. This high-value niche market for compounds and polymers dove by an unprecedented 9% between 2007 and 2008 and has fallen by a further 4% in 2009. As in other polymer processing sectors, much of the 2008 and early 2009 fall in volumes consumed was due to frantic destocking on the part of cable extruders as polymer prices fell in line with the collapse in oil and other feedstock prices.
