Thanks to the dynamic role played by the Ministry of Non-conventional Energy Sources (MNES), New Delhi, the pragmatic and co-operative attitude adopted by the State Electricity Boards (SEBs) and state nodal agencies and the keen interest evinced by the Corporate sector to take advantage of the concessions offered by the Central and State Governments for developing renewable energy in general and wind energy in particular, India has made rapid strides in wind power development. In a short span of onedecade from 1986, the installed capacity has reached 800 MW mark. Globally, today India ranks third, next only to the USA and Germany in wind energy exploitation.
