AT THE beginning of the recent wave in popularity of leaving the anti-aliasing (or 'low-pass') filter off the front of the imaging sensor, there was much discussion regarding the positive and negative effects of such an action. The obvious positive effect is that the full resolution of the lens and the sensor can be used to record the maximum amount of detail in the scene, without the blurring effects introduced by the low-pass filter. On the other hand, very finely textured subjects can be recorded with a strange pattern in them where the resolution of the subject is greater than the sensor can record. To ensure its customers could have a choice, and so that no one would be forced to go with or without an AA filter on their camera, Pentax has produced two versions of its K-5 II - one with an AA filter and one without (the K-5 IIs). In all other respects, the cameras are the same.
