NIKON D800: The D800 features the world's highest-resolution full frame sensor in a DSLR. Just how good is it?

Compared to the 16.2MP full frame chip found in the D4, the D800 features an incredible 36.3MP full frame CMOS sensor. Not only will it be possible to produce large prints with this kind of resolution, but there's the added flexibility of being able to crop much tighter into the image. Despite the increased pixel density over the D4, the ISO range is only slightly narrower. The standard range is from 100 to 6400 (one stop less than the D4), with the extended range running up to an ISO equivalent of 25,600 (as opposed to 204,800). The viewfinder boasts the same 100% coverage, though.
