The Isuzu Trooper has had a turhulent few years in the UK. Shunnted by owner General Motors Home years back in favour of the rebadged Vauxhall Monterey, it was subsequently welcomed back when GM discovered nobody wanted to buy the Monty. Now - no doubt feeling suitably vindicated - Isuzu's UK importer, International Motors, has set about rebuilding the Trooper's success on these shores. The first stage of recovery coincided with the addition of a new engine and subtle restyling for the venerable but respected off-roader. And now its impressive 3.0-litre turbodiesel hah been married to an automatic transmission providing a viable alternative to She Land Rover Discovery Td5's 'slushbox' option.
