SINCE the discovery of a simple graphite-arc method which can produce grams of C_(60), the growth of high quality C_(60) films on various substrates has been one of the main subjects for fullerene research. It is reported that the growth behavior of C_(60) films is determined by geometrical matching and the bonding properties between C_(60) lattice and the surface of substrate, Much work has been done to investigate the growth and structure of C_(60) films on various non-metallic substrates, such asgraphite, MoS_2, mica and NaCl. The interactions between C_(60) and nonmetallic substrates are van der Walls forces, so the growth of C_(60) on these substrates is a weak interfacial interaction growth process. Recently, the C_(60)-metal interactions have aroused much interest. It has been shown that there exist very strong interfacial interactions and charge transfer between C_(60) and many metal surfaces, such as Au, Ag, Cu and Ni. Therefore, the studies of the growth process and structure of C_(60) film on metallic substrates will enable us not only to understand the growth mechanism of C_(60) films, but also td get an insight into the C_(60)-metal interaction. So far only limited work has dealt with C_(60) thin film grown on metal substrates. In this note, we report the study of growing high-quality C_(60)(111) single crystalline film on Ni_3Co(111) surface.
