THEY WERE GOING to call it the Vectra. GM's Jim Federico, who as project line director has the job of bringing the Insignia and 12 other cars based on it to production, says it was '50-50 for a while'. In the end, General Motors - Vauxhall's parent company - decided the new car represents such a change of mindset that it deservella change of name. It's even got a new version of Vauxhall's griffin badge.
