FIRST THINGS FIRST: the name. This new version of the Passat is not, as the initials CC might infer, a coupe-cabrio with a metal folding roof. VW already has one of those in the Eos. Instead, VW says it stands for crossover coupe - a curvaceous, coupe-like four-door saloon, in the same vein as the Mercedes CLS. A saloupe, if you like. Every exterior panel is new, but don't fall into the trap of thinking the CC is just a rebodied Passat. There are technological tricks on board that you can't get in the saloon - some handed down from other cars in the VW stable, others being seen for the first time. VW has worked hard to make the CC a car in its own right, and one that's more exclusive than your run-of-the-mill Passat.
