Discovery and significance of microfossils from Qinbaikouian Dazhuang Formation in Luonan, Shaanxi Province

摘要

THE microfossils were obtained by using 5 % -- 7 % HF acid from Qingbaikouian Dazhuang Formation in Luonan County, Shaanxi Province, with an age of 800--1000 Ma. The fossils may be one type of the oldest skeletal microfossils. The fossils locality isnear Shangsidian Village (34°10'N, 110°25'E), Luonan County, Shaanxi Province (fig. 1). The Dazhuang Formation is a rock unit between the middle Proterozoic Luonan Group and the Sinian Luoquan Formation. It was named at Fengjialing section to the northof Luonan County town. Along the Fengjialing section, it reaches its greatest thickness of about 510 m. This formation is mainly composed of carbonic-siliceous rocks, showing a deposition environment of deep-water stagnant basin, and can be divided intofour members. The Dazhuang Formation uncon-formably lies on the Fengjiawan Formation and below the Luoquan Formation, and may be correlated to the Xiamaling Formation in the lower part of the Qingbaikou Group in the Jixian area. The fossils are preserved in black siliceous slate in Member 3 of the formation.
