There are few differences between many United Kingdom commercial pig units, except in one respect... their health status. This can often be the difference between good performance and decidedly average performance. However, having a very normal healthstatus - i.e. one where a number of the more common pig pathogens are present such as enzootic pneumonia (EP), PRRS or parvovirus - does not mean the herd should accept poor performance as a given. The thrust of the British Pig Health Scheme is to drive an upgrading of the national herd's health status.
