Convention heading for the history books

Time will tell if free-farrowing still counts as'free' when sows can be restrained, in order to comply with health and safety requirements. But one thing is for sure ... conventional farrowing frames are heading for the history books. Stuart Lumb counted no fewer than 12 free-farrowing systems on display at EuroTier in Germany. EuroTier has pig, poultry and cattle halls, along with aqua and bioenergy sections. The show is run with military precision, to the extent that each hall has a manager (each with his own office) who is there to ensure the needs of the exhibitors are promptly met and any problems swiftly resolved.
