Today I choose to run the risk of earning the disapproval of my peers, by putting forward an argument as to why we, as pig producers, should give a qualified welcome to the idea of sharing the cost and the responsibility of exotic animal disease withgovernment. I start by stating the obvious: if nothing else changed in the area of managing exotic disease other than who were to pick up the tab, then, of course, we producers would be mad to accept a simple transfer of cost from government to industry.
