Cambodia's pig industry growing rapidly

Cambodia has started to pick itself up after years of poverty. The South East Asian country, with 15 million inhabitants, has begun to embrace intensive pig production despite numerous obstacles. Producers come from different businesses to try their luck. Where do they come from and where will they go? First of all Cambodian livestock industry could not exist without its neighbouring countries. The industry relies heavily on imported supplies of soybean meal, fish meal, additives, medicines and vaccines. Lack of access to electricity in rural areas is a major constraint preventing producers from taking up intensive farming.
