The publicity machine behind the WER scheme has made it the easy option for manufacturers selling their windows using the energy efficiency message. Certainly, it's easy for consumers to understand A=best and E=worst but I would question whether it is actually making the windows we make and sell more energy efficient. In my view, it is in triple glazing where the real energy and cost savings are available. Shouldn't we have a similarly concertedmarketing and education campaign to communicate that?Compared with an A-rated window with a typical U-value of 1.4, a triple-glazed window can easily achieve a U-value of just 1.0, and with a 44mm unit, it can achieve 0.8 - up to 40% more efficient than an A.
