Last month I discussed raising the immunity threshold in breeding herds... and how we needed to build the cost of the need to have the bought-in gilt acclimatised for longer into future production. Overseas producers, I find, aren't switched on to this move yet. Some of them are making a proper pig's ear of it with regard to legs and lameness, as well as the second litter fallaway, especially with high-lean gain genetics, and in hot climates/hot summers where any tendency towards a low appetite soon manifests itself.
