The firm had bought such a system more than 10 years ago and had successfully used it on more than 1,500 aircraft engine component repairs. However, this time the size and configuration of the manifold necessitated a different weld head to automate the repair of the helicopter engine fuel injection system. "Since we already had the computer interface, it was the choice to make," said Juan Mendez, Director of Engineering for Propulsion Technology. "We saved a good portion of time and money not having to buy a control port. That made the solution really attractive."
