Blooms, birds and bouquet: burning for biodiversity (and wine) in a complexlandscape

The International Association of Wildland Fire's Fifth Annual Fire Behavior and Fuels Conference provided attendees with a look at effects from recent burning during a field trip at the end of conference proceedings. A concurrent conference occurringin Melbourne, Australia illuminated the kind of partnerships and sharing across divides that the event in Portland, Oregon exemplified. A tour of burn units in the Willamette Valley wrapped up a week of speakers, discussions, and presentations. The tourvisited burn units in the north Willamette Valley that were ignited last fall, explored challenges and successes, and reinforced the importance of our partnerships, which were celebrated with a wine tasting at Firesteed Winery.
