Continuing medical education for health practitioners in rural India.

The importance of continuing medical education (CME) programmes in academics has been repeatedly emphasized. The Medical Council of India (MCI) has recommended the organization of CME programmes and seminars for medical faculty.1 It has also been campaigning for CME to be made compulsory for registered medical practitioners in India. To make sure that the standard of medical care and practice keeps pace with the latest developments, the MCI has proposed a draft amendment to the Medical Council of India Act that would standardize medical practice across India.
