Agaricus and the mushroom phorid

Crops of the mushroom, Agaricus bisporus, can be attacked by various pests primarily the sciarids Lycoriella castanescens and L. ingenua, and the phorid Megaselia halterata. These pests exploit the protected environment of a mushroom growing house and, because of the intensive and cyclic nature of mushroom production, can become a major problem. In the UK lost production through pest attack and pest control measures cost the industry several million pounds per year.
