Malard Mushroom Co. are the largest growers of mushrooms in Iran. Situated west of Tehran near Karaj, the company has been in the mushrooms business for many years.There are current two sites, one in the middle of the large town of Malard, where the mushrooms are grown, and the other 30 minutes away out in the countryside, where the compost and casing are prepared.The compost yard is basically very traditional, using wheat straw and chicken manure plus gypsum and water. The bales of wheat straw are quite small and very light at about 15/20 kilos each, but with the arrival of the first Hesston baler in Iran recently, it is hoped that in the near future straw will be available in the easier to handle larger bale.
