There was once, not so very long ago, a mushroom grower who produced on an early edition of bulk phase II and who grew in transparent polythene bags. He either bought or was given for Christmas a powerful hand-lens to which he very quickly became totally addicted. Walking the farm became a 'micro' experience rather than a macro one, consisting of progress from the surface of one polythene bag to another, for minute examination with the lens of the water film on the polythene surface.
