Timing has been 24/48Hrs late recently. As soon as we first noticed that the airing day growth wasn't where it should have been, we checked the system out for the obvious. Nothing there. So then we started to reduce our water input. Firstly we dropped watering the day before airing. No real difference seen. (Watering the day before is "S.W.H.A.D." -- think about it -- How many times is that said on farms up and down the country?) The growth was in the casing, about two thirds of the way up, but thesurface growth wasn't there to anastomose with it. The growth underneath wouldn't push to the surface in time. We gradually reduced our water input during case-running hoping to encourage the growth. We are averaging about 14/16 liters during case-run at present, which is a lot less than we were doing. Still no real sign of improvement on the surface growth. The next thing I tried was to "up" the CaC-ing rate from 15 liters/1000ft~2 to 24 liters -- (only the timing was out, the yield and quality was still there) Yes, it did help, but not as much as expected.
