The Indian mushroom industry - a cross-sectional view

A brief overview is provided of the Indian mushroom industry, indicating a discouraging picture. The international market was attractive in the 1980s and 1990s but with the arrival of increasing quantities onto the world market from other countries,prices have dropped and export oriented units are finding it difficult to sell their produce profitably. Constraints to progress are noted with regard to the technology gap, lack of understanding of Indian conditions, and lack of training and knowledge.
