Greater Natural Buttes Field, Uirsta Basin, Utah1

The Greater Natural Buttes Field (GNB) is a continuous natural gas accumulation producing from tight sandstones located in the northeast part of the Uinta Basin of northeastern Utah. The Uinta is an asymmetrical basin with a west-northwest trending axis and steepest limb to the north, which ultimately culminates into the Uinta Uplift. The basin is bounded by the Uncompahgre Uplift on the southeast, the San Rafael Swell on the southwest, and Charleston Overthrust segment of the Sevier Orogenic Belt on the west, and is separated from the Piceance Basin to the east by the Douglas Creek Arch (Fig. 1).
