Jonah Field, SubSette County, Wyoming: Where Has It Been and Where Ss ft Going?1

The first well located inside the fault-bounded, over-pressured compartment that is now known as Jonah Field was drilled by Home Petroleum (HPC) in 1986 (Jonah No. 1-4, Sec. 4, T28N, R108W). Their staff was very encouraged by the shows of gas throughout much of the Lance section. However, problems with cement bond and ineffective fracture stimulations of the Lance Formation reservoir resulted in an inability to test the full productive potential of this well. A year later, HPC drilled a second well that encountered similar indications of pressure and gas saturation. Again, poor stimulations limited the productive potential of this well. Laboratory analysis of drill cuttings from this well incorrectly concluded that the Lance was not capable of commercial production. Such was the technical bias of the late 1980s.
