The rate of translation of research evidence into practice has been reported to average 17 years. Multiple barriers to translating nursing evidence into practice have been identified. One area understudied is nurses' self-efficacy related to translating evidence into practice. Self-efficacy theory posits that self-efficacy predicts performance. Thus, targeting evidence-based practice (EBP) self-efficacy could serve to expedite the translation process. The purpose of this study is to examine preliminary evidence of the reliability and validity of the researcher-developed 17-item Evidence-Based Practice Self-Efficacy (EBPSE) Scale. A quasi-experimental design with a two-phased approach is used, involving establishment of content validity and testing the scale using descriptive and inferential statistics.
