The DF-1 chicken fibroblast cell line: transformation induced by diverse oncogenes and cell death resulting from infection by avian leukosis viruses

The continuous chick embryo fibroblast cell line DF-1, which is free from endogenous sequences of avian sarcoma and leukosis viruses, supports the replication of avian retroviruses. Several oncogenes induce foci of transformation on DF-1 monolayersand avian leukosis viruses of envelope subgroups B, C and D induce cell death and form plaques. This new cell line will be useful for studies on oncogenicity and cell death caused by avian viruses.
