Changes are coming to Virginia's harvest notification system. Loggers are currently required by law to notify the Virginia Department of Forestry (VDOF) within three days of beginning a timber harvest. VDOF anticipates that new updates to their notification system will be up and running by the fall or winter of 2008. VDOF plans to issue a harvest notification account ID number for each logger operating in the Commonwealth. They will send a mailing to every logger in their database system based on addresses provided from previous timber harvests. They hope to confirm the logger's contact information and remove any out dated or inaccurate information from their database. Once a logger's contact information is verified, the logger will receive a harvest notification account ID to be used for future harvest notifications.
