Managing Annual Bluegrass Weevil on Golf Greens

The annual bluegrass weevil (Listwnotus maculicolis) is a major pest of annual bluegrass and creeping bentgrass, but until 2007, it was not known to occur in Virginia. In May 2007, however, damaging infestations of annual bluegrass weevil (ABW) grubswere found on the Woods Course at the Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg. According to a 2005 University of Maryland fact sheet, management costs for the ABW on New England golf courses were estimated at $6,000 annually from multiple insecticide applications.
