The Local Pharmaceutical Services (LPS) contract was introduced as an alternative to the General Pharmaceutical Services contract (PhS) in 2002,1 The experiences of the first-wave LPS pilots provide insight into the implementation process of additional pharmacy services and the impact this can have on pharmacy capacity, Parallels can be drawn between the services provided under LPS and those included in the 'advanced' and 'enhanced' service tiers of the new pharmacy contract (nPhS).2 The objective of this study is to examine the impact of additional service provision on pharmacy capacity, focusing on workload, workforce, and premises.
