Preparation of highly microporous and mesoporous carbon from the mesophase pitch and its carbon foams with KOH

Activated carbons (ACs) have been widely used for adsorption of pollution from gaseous and liquid phases,storage of natural gas as fuel of vehicles,catalysis supporter,and electric double-layer capacitors (EDLC) [1].As the spectra of pollutants,which should be removed from our environment,are widespread,one must tailor the activated carbons with high micro-,mesopore volume and large specific surface area [2,3],Recently,several literatures have reported that the mesoporous carbon is suitable for adsorption of giant molecules,easy access of ion during electrochemical process,and many techniques have been proposed to prepare mesoporous carbons [3-5].
