Continuous gravimetric feeding of small amounts of bulk solids at gas pressures of a few millibars

In many processes, the synthesis of advanced products requires a continuous and gravimetric controlled feeding of small amounts of precursors and additives. Feeding of bulk solids in the range below 1000 g/h is a difficult task. If the feeding has to take place at low pressures, the demands on an appropriate feeding system increase. In this paper, a feeding system is presented which can be successfully used to teed small amounts of bulk solids continuously and gravimetrically at low pressures. Measurements of the feeding characteristics and first experiences of the handling of the feeding system in the process are presented. Besides, basic considerations of the demands on a feeding system operated at low gas pressure are given.
