The European measuring instruments directive: a new challenge for manufacturers of weighing instruments

After eight years of preparatory work the commission of the European Union has almost finished the proposal for an European directive on measuring instruments. The proposal is actually being harmonized within the commission and recently an advance copy was made available to the authorities of metrology institutes. The concept of the proposal is illustrated and explanations are given on legal implications.The commission's proposals on the further harmonization of the market for automatic weighing instruments are commented and possible conclusions are drawn with particular emphasis on the manufactures of weighing instruments.
