IT ALL STARTED just over five years ago. I'd recently sold a Corrado G60 and bought my fourth Mk 2 Golf, a bright blue metallic GTI fitted with a 2.016V ABF engine from an Ibiza. It went well enough, but needed to be brought up to scratch - the Ibiza radiator held on with cable ties was the first thing to go! I gave it a fair overhaul and ran it for a year, including a trip to the Nurburgring and several track days at Castle Combe. Then I changed my job, which required a regular drive over some of the worst moorland roads you'd ever seen! I reluctantly decided to sell up before I ruined her, and sold her within five days.
