With the new twincharged Polo GTI now imminent, Peter Noad considers the attributes of its turbocharged predecessor AS THE GOLF GTI became larger, heavier, more sophisticated (but not always faster) with each new generation, enthusiasts began to look to a 'hot' version of the Polo which could become the spiritual successor to the original (Mk 1) Golf GTI.
