A 2.7-kg (5.9-lb) female, domestic shorthaired tabby kitten, approximately 10 to 14 weeks of age, was brought into Mother Lode Pet Emergency Clinic in Shingle Springs, California, by a Good Samaritan who found her at the side of the road, possibly hit by a car. We immediately named her "Tabitha." It was noted that her right humerus had a semi-critical compound fracture, and she exhibited signs of hypovolemic shock.
