Teeth may fracture when an animal chews on hard objects, fights with another animal, or experiences an impact injury (e.g., as a result of being hit by an automobile). When an animal has an open tooth fracture, in which the pulp is exposed, the treatment options available are root canal, vital partial pulpectomy or extraction.
