OSTEOARTHRITIS IN A SENIOR PET

Lady, a 49.5-lb (22.5-kg), spayed, mixed-breed dog, was adopted from the Calgary Humane Society in 1996 when she was about 3 years of age. Her adoptive family owns a mixed farm operation with cattle and horses located south of the town of Nanton, Alberta. In November 2002, after 6 years of playing with active children and facing down bossy cows, Lady was presented to the Nanton Veterinary Clinic with a history of lameness associated with cool, damp weather.
